GLANMIRE TIDY TOWNS
Email us: glanmiretidytowns@gmail.com
Do you, like so many people, walk or drive around our naturally beautiful locality and complain about the amount of litter discarded, the rubbish dumped in our community?
Well now you have an opportunity to act, you can join the Tidy Town Team and together we can make a difference
Have you ever noticed if an area is really clean, it actually acts as
a deterant to litterer's
Everyone is welcome to join, the more that get involved the quicker we can make improvements. We go out on regular basis - litter picking, sweeping leaves, cleaning road signs, etc., followed by "Créme's" finest cappuccino
Our aim is to encourage people to take ownership of some part of their surroundings, within our community
We also work closely with the Cork County Council to enhance the local area and facilities
If you have a spare hour or two a week OR a month OR even a year and you would like to help us, do let us know
There are 8,000 adults in the area, if each one gave 1 hour a year, we could get 153 hrs of work done every week.. wouldn't that be fantastic, can you image the difference that would make?
We have a variety of areas to tackle; Clearing Litter along the roadsides, Planting- Trees, Flowerbeds, Hanging Baskets, Weeding - Painting, the list goes on and on.
Any time you can spare, no matter how long or short will be hugely appreciated!
Did you know … you could be fined 150 euros for dropping litter – even a cigarette butt!!!!

10 Reasons to be a Pooper-Scooper
1. Storm water carries pet waste and other pollutants directly into waterways (which then returns to you via the tap!) 2. Animal waste adds nitrogen to the water. Excess nitrogen depletes the water's oxygen, which is necessary for healthy underwater grasses, wildlife and fish
3. Animal waste may contain harmful organisms such as Giardia, Salmonella and E. coli that can be transmitted to humans and other animals by ingesting contaminated water
4. Roundworms and hookworms deposited by infected animals can live in the soil for a long time and be transmitted to other animals and humans
5. It's the law! You can be fined €150! You are required to pick up after your pet. Even if there was no restriction, cleaning up after your pet is the right thing to do
6. By joining the growing number of responsible pet owners, you might encourage hotel managers to accept pets when you're travelling and keep extra fees to a minimum
7. Let's face it - no one likes to step in pet waste and spread it into homes, cars and businesses
8. Scooping on a daily basis and applying lime will help prevent odours
9. It's easy to clean up by carrying plastic small plastic bags and paper towels in your pocket. The bags can be secured and thrown away in the garbage
10. Your neighbours will appreciate the good manners!
